PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
