The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major honors show approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
